Army kills 2 persons in Bandipora, situation tense Srinagar, June 30, 2013: (GNS) Massive protests broke out in Sumbal area of Bandipora in North Kashmir following the death of two persons in alleged army firing. Sources told Global News Service that army’s 13 RR killed a 18-yr-old Irfan Nabi Ganie son of Ghulam Nabi around 9:00 p.m on Saturday without any provocation at Markundal area of Sumbal. They said that Irfan was asked to stop by army but as he continued to move ahead, army opened fire, killing him on the spot. As the news broke out in the area, hundreds of people took to streets around dawn on Sunday. The angry protesters which include women and children attacked army vehicles which passed through the area. The army again opened fire targeting the protesters, resulting in death to one more person identified as Irshad Ahmad Dar (27) son of Ghulam Mohidin Dar of Kunbal Sumbal. The situation in the area, sources said was very tense with higher officials of police and administration rushing to the spot. When contacted army’s Srinagar based spokesman he told Global News Service that a joint cordon was launched by army and SOG following inputs about the presence of militants in the area. “In the area, outside the cordon we came to know that a civilian was killed. We don’t know how he got killed, the spokesman said, adding that violent mobs attacked army’s ambulance following which our men opened fire in self defence. (GNS)
