Arrest made in Charity Box Theft Update: June 11th, 2014 Following yesterday’s media release, Hamilton Police officers continued their relentless pursuit of the suspect that was responsible for taking a cash box from the Sheraton Hotel lobby, which was for a charity bicycle ride for cancer (Canadian Cancer Society). During the course of the investigation, a possible suspect was identified. Police then searched all Hamilton area hotels and motels in hopes of locating the suspect. On June 10th at approx. 2:30pm, the suspect was located and arrested without incident at a downtown hotel. Also arrested was a female companion of the suspect. Following his arrest, a search warrant was sought and executed on his hotel room where a portion of the stolen funds were recovered. A 52-yr-old Missisauga man’s bail has been opposed. Arrested: Brian Ross PEEBLES (52 years) Charges: Theft Over $5000.00 Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000.00 Background June 7th, 2014 On Saturday June 7th 2014, the charity event Ride to Conquer Cancer was holding a banquet dinner at the Sheraton Hotel located at 116 King Street West in Hamilton. Supporters of the event paid an admission fee as well as donated to the fundraiser. During the event, a cash box containing approximately $11,000 was stolen from the event organizers. Hamilton Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the involved male suspect. Video surveillance captured the suspect exiting the building with the cash box in his possession. The male suspect is described as white, 40-45 years of age, short blonde/grey hair, wearing an orange polo shirt over a white t-shirt, dark jeans, brown running shoes, sunglasses, and wearing a cell phone on his hip.
