Arrest of youth sparks protest and shutdown in Baramulla Baramulla: The detention of a youth on charges of stone-pelting sparked protest and subsequent shutdown in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses told that a police party on Monday evening appeared near General Bus Stand Baramulla and arrested a vegetable seller whom locals identified as Sameer Ahmed Gojri a resident of Shah Hamdan Colony Baramulla. Resenting the police action, the traders and people present there staged a protest against police while some vendors reportedly attacked police personnel with stones as a result police used tear-smoke shells to disperse them. Reports said that at least six persons including the member of Bevopar Mandal Baramulla were injured during the clashes. Reports said that the shopkeepers on Tuesday observed complete shutdown and demanded immediate release of the arrested youth who according to them is a vendor selling vegetables in the area. However, a police official told that the arrested youth is a known stone-pelter and has been arrested on the charges of violence and stone-pelting. (CNS)
