Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Barcelona attacker - TopicsExpress

Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez as Arsene Wenger’s push to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez falters due to the Anfield side’s valuation of the Uruguayan according to Sports Direct News. The former Udinese man has had an up and down time of it since moving to the Nou Camp two years ago and the arrival of Neymar could limit the Chilean international’s involvement in first team affairs and as such the 24 year old is now the subject of growing interest. Tottenham apparently see Sanchez as a possible replacement for Gareth Bale, should the Welsh international make his long awaited move to Real Madrid this summer whilst Rafa Benitez is also keen to bring Alexis back to Serie A and the Spanish boss has a big budget with which to entice the Barcelona man back to the Italian top tier. Arsenal failed with bids of £35m and £40m for Liverpool star Suarez and Wenger is reticent about moving towards the £50m that the Merseyside club appear to be holding out for and as such a move for a cheaper option such as Sanchez could prove tempting. Barcelona paid around £30m to sign Sanchez in July 2011 and would presumably expect a fee in the same region for the forward who has netted a modest 26 goals in 87 appearances for the Catalan side in all competitions. Wenger is looking to beef up an attack that relies upon Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott primarily in wide roles meaning that arguably the Gunners only effective central striking weapon comes in the form of French forward Olivier Giroud, who managed a sedate 11 goals in 34 Premier League appearances last term.
