Art Bell: Show not viable under these conditions Art Bell confirmed by email Monday that he is quitting his Dark Matter paranormal-themed talk show broadcast on SiriusXM. He explained that technical complications were resulting in a lack of live listeners and making it unfeasible to receive calls from a fan base, circumstances on which the show was based. “The show was simply not viable under these conditions,” Bell wrote. The rock musician turned talk show host became one of the most recognized names in the paranormal community during the 1990s while hosting Coast to Coast AM. Bell semi-retired from his position with the show in 2003, but served as a guest host to various extents through 2010. Bells return to the air waves was announced earlier this year. His first Dark Matter show was broadcast in September, just a few weeks prior to arriving at the current logjam with SiriusXM. “I started the show with the expectation that my listeners would be able to stream the show since most were coming from AM,” Bell explained to Orlando Paranormal Examiner Monday evening. Listeners often began by trying a 30-day free trial, Bell stated, but found themselves disconnected every few minutes. “After the 30-day trial most did not renew, why would they?” Bell added that listeners were then faced with paying annual fees for a service that did not work properly in order to try to listen to the show live. “So I lost my base,” Bell wrote. “My show is based on call in.” Attempts to find solutions did not pan out. “I asked Sirius to allow free streaming for a year until they could fix their problems,” Bell stated, “and they said no.” Is there any way the late night paranormal talk show air waves might include Art Bell? “I am here and more than willing to do a show if Sirius changes their minds.
