Arthur Scheffler (wearing Band Major hat in rear row) served as Exalted Ruler in 1928-29. He was instrumental in keeping the lodge viable in the Depression years. He formed a marching band to play at lodge functions and local parades. He was a renowned local businessman who owned and operated the Meyers Hotel in Hoboken. He served as Hoboken Elks House Committee Chairperson for over 30 years. He was known around town as Mr. Elk and famous for always wearing a fresh carnation on his lapel. Photo from the early 1930s.
