Article of the Day by John Yanik Cancer in our pets….why you should stop vaccinating now This is a topic that has personally touched me and is the reason why I chose a natural rearing lifestyle for my pets. The question is not if vaccines cause cancer because it has been proven that they do. The question should be if I vaccinate or continue to vaccinate, when and where will “the shoe drop.” The most direct proof is that vaccines cause cancer is something that is called a vaccine induced sarcoma. It is found primarily in cats, but also has been known to occur in other animals like dogs and ferrets. This is a highly malignant tumor which has primarily been linked to rabies and feline leukemia viruses, but can be from other vaccines as well. This has led to a practice of veterinarians vaccinating in an extremity rather than on the body, so that the extremity may be amputated in the event that one of these highly malignant tumors takes hold. There are several ways that a vaccine may contribute to cancer in our pets. One way is the direct injection of a known carcinogenic agent into the body. All vaccines contain adjuvants, not usually listed in the ingredients so you really are not sure which ones are present. Some of these adjuvants are present in human vaccines, but there is a bit more latitude in what they can add to animal vaccines. These are primarily organic chemical compounds. Examples of this are compounds like formaldehyde and squalene. The National Institute of Health declared formaldehyde a carcinogen. People who have frequent occupational exposures to it, like morticians, hair salon workers and those in the manufacturing industry, have higher than average rates of leukemia and cancers of the nasal passages and mouth. So, it is not surprising that injecting this year after year in the same spot may cause problems. This is just one example of one chemical compound in vaccines. editionduo/publication/?i=102303 (continued on page 30 Vol 1 Issue 3)
