.:: Artist Spotlight: NO Ritter ::. All this week, we highlighted those artists who will be performing TONIGHT at A Miss Plus America Fundraiser and Celebration of the Arts. The third artist to be featured was Najee Omar. We asked Najee these questions: Q: If you were President, what would you ban? A: If I were President, I’d ban complacency. It’s killing our productivity. I’d want to do away with it. Higher expectations for everyone! Q: Lil Kim or Remy Ma? A: Lauryn Hill. Q: Who inspires you to pursue art, living and dead? A: My community inspires me to pursue art. I believe that art is a medicine. It’s something we all lean on, depend upon, look to for inspiration, entertainment, enjoyment, escape, etc. There is a high demand for it (consciously and unconsciously). I do it for the people who are begging for it. Whether they know it or not. Q: How would you spend the perfect Saturday? A: Perfect Saturday includes waking up to buttermilk pancakes, home fries, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, and turkey bacon. Spending the day outside at a street festival or an event with (great) live music. Grabbing some food at a dope restaurant (sitting outside). Then coming home to a nice movie. It’s the simple things… Q: If you were in a pageant, what would the pageant be called and what would your platform be? A: I have no idea what the pageant would be called; however, my platform would involve revamping the classroom to introduce and incorporate revolutionary strategies, using the arts, to reach and engage students in order to aid in academic success.
