Arts Extract Podcast has some nice things to say about this show. Having survived the exhausting metalcore explosion of the aughts, we have to respect the polished New England thrashers in Shadows Fall for avoiding the predictable chug-a-lug dynamics and gurgle-spew that contemporaries like God Forbid and Killswitch Engage clung to. Instead, Shadows Fall builds on monstrously progressive songwriting, melodic howls from vocalist Brian Fair, and the gorgeously tasteful and agile guitar solos of (now full-time Anthrax member) Jonathan Donais. Sadly, Shadows Fall will not be touring behind a new record, but at least that ups the chances of us hearing some classics like “Crushing Belial” or “Revel In My Loss” from 2000’s ‘Of One Blood.’
