As I expounded the Scriptures to my precious wife this morning, I - TopicsExpress

As I expounded the Scriptures to my precious wife this morning, I read to her from Habakkuk 3:16-19 (see the full text below). Habakkuk is speaking of judgment coming upon the southern kingdom of Judah. Looking at the signs of the times, I believe that the fierce judgment of God has been coming and is descending upon America. I am not a prophet. But God is thrice holy, and sin is an offense to Him. America has been given great light and and for the most part has turned from Him and embraced darkness. But God always has a people for His own possession, His treasured possession... those purchased by the blood of the Lamb! (I Peter 1:17-21; 2:4-10) Christians will not be exempt from great trials of our faith, from fierce persecution that the wicked will bring on the saints of God. God may use this as a time of testing us, trying us as gold tried in the fire. Stand for the Lord like the three men in Daniel chapter 3 (read the chapter and be encouraged!). Do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him! (Jesus Christ speaking in Luke 12:4,5) Habakkuk 3:16-19 I heard and my inward parts trembled, at the sound my lips quivered. Decay enters my bones, and in my place I tremble. Because I must wait quietly for the day of distress, for the people to arise who will invade us. Though the fig tree should not blossom and there be no fruit on the vines, though the yield of the olive should fail and the fields produce no food, though the flock should be cut off from the fold and there be no cattle in the stalls, yet I will exult in the LORD, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and He has made my feet like hinds feet, and makes me walk on my high places. Dear saints of the living God, draw near to God. Be done with any sin, worldly way, compromise, anything that pains your conscience, lukewarmness, any stumbling block, flee even the appearance of evil. Turn fully to God daily, be a living and holy sacrifice (Romans 12:1,2), acceptable to God. Have as your one ambition to be pleasing to Him (II Corinthians 5:9), perfecting holiness in the fear of God (II Corinthians 7:1). Rejoice in the Lord, love the Lord, worship the Lord! The safest place for the child of God is in His shadow and under His wings (Psalm 91:1-4) and in His everlasting arms (Deuteronomy 33:27). There is none like the God of Jeshurun, who rides the heavens to your help, and through the skies in His majesty. The eternal God is a dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms, and He drove out the enemy from before you, and said, Destroy! (Deuteronomy 33:26,27). Along with Habakkuk, even when everything is dark, exult in the Lord.
