As I fill in my days by writing about Rock history one thing will be really clear; How many of these stories are intermingled and how lots of these characters are connected in many ways. Lets start off by going back about 50 years or so. Maybe even a little further. Lets go back to 1963. That is the year that 15 year old steve Winwood started a band with his brother Muff Winwood and friend, 23 year old Spencer Davis. Spencer, a welshman, had little opprotunity to hear and play R &B in his home town until he met and formed a band called The Saints with future Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman. Not long after, Davis moved to Birmingham, England and was dating Christine Perfect ( who would later marry John McVie of Fleetwood Mac). He went out with his girl one night to hear a group called Muff Woodey, which was the obvious concoction of Steve Winwood and his older brother Muff. He was so excited at hearing how talented Steve Winwood was they immediately formed The Spencer Davis Group .At first getting gigs was not very easy.... remember that Steve was only 15 at the time, and playing in bars was a must. here is their first big hit from 1965 Keep on Running. Just look at how young Winwood looks. Still only 17 on in one of the biggest groups in England. The following two songs, Im a Man and his most recognizable hit Gimme some loving where released the following year when Winwood was still too young to perform in the Pubs. https://youtube/watch?v=kamXvqoL_JA ( Keep on Running) https://youtube/watch?v=BfbV-udt7U4 ( Im a Man) https://youtube/watch?v=31AGv-hToE0 (Gimme some Lovin)
