As I predicted our bite is still pretty good for mid July. Water - TopicsExpress

As I predicted our bite is still pretty good for mid July. Water temps are cooler than the annual average and fish are responding accordingly. Walleyes are still being taken most days in decent numbers and the size has remained very good with fat eyes averaging 18-21 inches. Most are being taken in depths ranging from 10-18 feet. Spinner rigs and slow death rigs using bottom bouncers (1-1/2 oz.) are still producing most of the fish. Trolled crank baits are also picking up some fish and I expect that pattern to strengthen as we move further into July and August. Pan fishing is picking up for perch and crappies on the deep edges of the weeds out to 16 feet. Crawler and minnows on crappie rigs work well. Channel cats are taking cut bait bottom fished in a wide range of depths. John Michalek caught a personal best musky of 46 that weighed 30#s earlier this week. People are again asking Is the lake turning over? Turn over only happens in the spring and fall when the layers of water equalize in temperature and mix together. What some erroneously refer to as turn over in the summer is a green algae bloom which is not toxic or harmful and has little if any effect on fishing success. Lake levels are coming down due to irrigation drawdown and is presently about 14 inches below full pool. Water temps are in the middle 70s. All 5 ramps are currently in service. New electrical campsites will soon be available in the Willow Cove area to augment existing electrical hook ups in Cedar Bay and Beeds Landing areas.
