As I sat in church this morning, I realized the one theme that has not been brought up is the wonderful churches and congregations in Bassett. I have been a member of First Baptist for virtually all my life, except for the years I was blessed to be a part of the Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church. I remember on the ride home seeing the cars coming off the hill from Pocahontas, seeing the congregations gather to leave the parking lots of the United Methodist and Bassett Church of the Brethren and arriving near Trent Hill, seeing folks from Mount Hermon heading home. Later, almost all those churches and more played in flag football, basketball and of course, softball leagues! These churches are all still around and still active in their own ways! We were truly blessed by the religious leaders we all had the blessing of knowing. At First Baptist, Dr Douglas White led for many years. Today we are blessed with Dr Lew Bennett. I loved the times all the churches would gather, either in a Thanksgiving or other special service. I wish we did more of that!!
