As I sit here on this cold morning in late November thinking about - TopicsExpress

As I sit here on this cold morning in late November thinking about all of the things that I have to get done in preparation for the festivities of Thanksgiving day tomorrow. I began reflecting back on all of the many things that I am thankful for and how I have been richly blessed with family, friends and a nice warm home to shelter me from the cold and allow me to rest comfortably. I couldn’t help but think about the people in the Philippines this morning. This year the Filipino people have endured so much. But even through the difficult challenges that they still find the spirit of thankfulness. I have seen their spirit of humility and their willingness to still lift God up and praise him. It is pretty amazing to me that people can go through very difficult situations and still have the heart that the Filipino people have exhibited. A few weeks ago I attended a fund raiser put on by a local Filipino American organization. The evening was very fun and the people who were there were all having a very good time. At one point during the evening, right before the dance floor opened up a young Filipino man got up in front of the group of people attending and started speaking about the challenges that the people currently living in the Philippines were facing and how the funds from this fundraiser could provide some assistance. But the thing that impressed me the most and actually touched me deeply was when he told a story about his own upbringing and how they were faced with calamity and how his mother held him and cared for him. How they were hungry and there was very little to eat but yet they made it through. It made me think about how he grew up in a very different way than myself but yet he stood there on that night and thanked God publically for many things. He gave God honor and Glory. I was very impressed by that expression of thankfulness and it made a definite impression on me that night. After this young man completed his talk a Filipino lady came forward and took the mic and began to speak. She wanted the group to stop for a minute and offer up prayers for the people and families that were enduring the effects of the recent typhoon. She began to pray and I took a quick glance around the room. What I noticed at that time that the entire group of probably 125 plus people were all there with heads bowed and eyes closed joined together in pray for the fellow brothers and sisters of the Philippines. That was a very awesome experience. On this day before Thanksgiving we here in the USA have a lot to be thankful for we all realize that we indeed do. I want to ask you to join with me today and tomorrow and lift the people of the Philippines up in prayer. Lift them up as we pray before our thanksgiving feasts or when you sit around with your friends and family and tell what you are thankful for this year. If you are willing to join with me “like” this post and share it with your friends and family. Thank You and Happy Thanksgiving from Impact Philippines.
