As I watch the news about those who are suffering in the Philippines, I remember what God told Israel. In Leviticus 19, the farmers were to leave portions of their crops so the poor and the stranger could have something to eat. God says the poor, weak, hurting and people in need will be with us always. Many will be the last to be served in their time if need because of their weakness (sick, young, women, elderly, disabled....). God wants us to serve and care for the weak and weary. You may be a teacher with a quiet student trying get them to open up, a teachers with a cognitive impaired student trying to learn, you may work alongside a struggling co-worker, politician considering a bill to help the working poor, or parents showing attention to their children. What you do with the least will can either honor or dishonor God by the way you help. I pray each of us will seek to serve those in need. I pray the grace of God that helped me and you in our time of need will cause you to pay it forward in all areas of life. I pray that the eyes of our politicians and corporate leaders will open to those struggling to get enough food to feed their families, to those who are alone and without love, and those without hope! That we will open our hearts and minds to the ways we can help and not destroy. How would you want to be treated if the tables were turned! If you say you serve God, then serve others.
