As I write this it’s a few minutes to midnight Sunday Night here in Vegas, I am counting my days, the few days remaining before I board my plane and head back home, to Kenya, Machakos, Masinga and to be more specific Kangonde. I reminiscence with pain the enthusiasm with which I mobilized my fellow youths, to usher in one Dr.Alfred Mutua as our first governor of Machakos, His running mate and the Deputy governor was to be one Bernard Kiala, a man I have known over a long period of time, a man every resident of Masinga will testify is a born leader, a man who has had the interest of his people at heart ever his childhood. This jolted us in to believing the combination of the Government spokesman and the servant of the people would carry us to the next level, the promised land. Few days into the office it started dawning on us we had been tricked, we had been conned, yes, the schemers had thought that Kiala was the soft guy they needed, to keep in the office of the Deputy Governor so that they could comfortably ship out of the county the resources meant for our people. Someone confided to me that they had been looking for a political dwarf, a politician they could destroy at will, woe unto them because they got it all wrong, If in Machakos there is a passionate leader, trust me, Bernard will stand out. When the money came to the county, the truth started dawning on us, The governor was made inaccessible to the people save for a few cinematic appearances in the name of launching this and that. He surrounded himself with more security personnel than the president, worse more he surrounded himself with people whose criminal past is in record and strangely enough this time round they were armed with guns, baffling too, our money at their disposal became the tool of trade for loyalty. If you were not loyal or opposed anything bad they wanted, they always could buy you or else buy your opponents at the grassroot to finish you. These machinations were being undertaken by the governor and his imported cronies. Its sad in the office of the governor we have no son of Machakos including the governor himself holding any position that is meaningful. To validate themselves, they recruited the greedy MCAs holding the meaningful positions in the county assembly. I believe you all know them but my interest is one Joshua Kiilu Mwonga my MCA and the so called leader of majority. A soildier who was unceremoniously dismissed from the forces because he could not keep up to the discipline became a sandscooper at kavwea before the neighbours and the good people of Kangonde chose to help him out and made him a councilor. Once a sanscooper always a sandscooper, he never dropped his habit. A man who dines with the devils, and as I say this I have his photos as he campaigned last elections barefoot on instructions from some witchdoctor. Despite knowing what the sand business was doing to his community he supported it and benefitted from it. A month ago it resulted in the demise of our young brothers barely in their teenage. Mwonga never even made the effort to come and console the bereaved because he feared for his life. What happened at kitangani is a culmination of the frustrations the people of masinga and specifically kangonde are undergoing. Mr. Governor, we are sure with the current leadership we will never benefit from devolution, we are sure the current leadership style is created and executed from your office. We heard Mwonga tell us on a National TV that you in Machakos government and Assembly don’t recognize Kiala as the deputy governor. We are the voters. Watch this space
