Senator Mark Leno: (916) 651-4011 Assembly Member Bob Blumenfield: (916) 319-2045 Hello, my name is_______________ and I am a member of ________La Merced ___________PTA, in ____Los Angeles___________ County. I am calling to share my input regarding the proposed new school funding formula with Budget Chairman Leno/Blumenfield. I urge the chairman to strengthen provisions in the plan that address the key issues raised in PTA’s letter to the conference committee. These include: *Adequate funding for all students * Access to a full curriculum * Meaningful parent engagement, transparency and clear accountability * Time for thoughtful implementation *Investment in early childhood education Thank you for conveying this important information to the Senator/Assembly Member. I really appreciate that and hope that he takes what I’ve shared into consideration. [If asked to elaborate on the issues, then describe as follows:] * Adequate funding — the base grant level as proposed in the May Revision is too low and should be increased, plus there must be a concrete plan for how the state will increase and sustain funding over time to provide ALL students with the quality education they deserve. * Access to a full curriculum — every school district must ensure that all students have access to a full curriculum that includes arts, science, P.E., civics, and more. *Meaningful parent engagement, transparency and clear accountability. This includes ensuring that additional funding for high needs students is used to serve those students. * Time for thoughtful implementation — We support a measured approach to allow school districts the time needed to develop their plans to meet the needs of all students and to engage their local communities. * Invest in early childhood education as part of the overall state budget.
