As-Salaam Alaikum, Do not expect to live a long time. On the basis of such an expectation we may engage in some extremely dangerous forms of procrastination. We might think, for example, “I’ll go to Hajj when I’m fifty years old.” “I will start wearing the hijab when I get married.” “I’ll grow a beard once I graduate.” Do not fall into such a delusional state. Tomorrow is promised to no one. We may never see our fiftieth birthday. We may not get married. We may not live long enough to graduate. Cut short your expectations in the world. Work as if you are going to die today. The Prophet, peace upon him, mentioned, “Exist in the world as if you are a stranger or a wayfarer and consider yourself among the inhabitants of the grave.”
