As a courtesy to those who are bothered by politically charged posts on Facebook, thats what this post is. I encourage you to read it and respond, but scroll on if these things annoy you. Senator Dianne Feinstein has been a long time defender of the NSA and other domestic surveillance programs, and currently serves on a CIA oversight committee. She recently defended such surveillance programs, saying: The way we prevent another attack... is intelligence. You have to know what’s going to happen, because it’s too late otherwise... Americans already see far more intrusion into their lives from commercial sources, she said, noting that her daughter emailed a contractor about a bathroom faucet and then started receiving messages from other contractors. Sorry Senator, but theres an enormous difference between a company sending my email address to other companies and the government actually reading my emails - and you know it. Which is why when the CIA turns and spies on you and your colleagues (they allegedly hacked the senators computers to remove a report that could have damaged the CIAs reputation), you suddenly take a much different tone: I have asked for an apology, and a recognition that this CIA search of computers used by this oversight committee was inappropriate. I have received neither. Besides the constitutional implications, the CIA search may have violated the Fourth Amendment, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, as well as [an executive order], which bars the CIA from conducting domestic surveillance. The hypocrisy here is comical. Senators are not above the law. If you want domestic surveillance to be the law, you must allow yourself to be subject to the same surveillance. But if you correctly realize that the CIA is acting unconstitutionally when it spies on YOU, you have to also admit that its just as unconstitutional for them to spy on everyone else. TL;DR: Government surveillance of citizens is wrong, government abuses any power it is given, and Sen. Feinstein is a joke.
