As a kid growing up ,haulage was always in our area ,wether it be chris miller , or walter edmundson , ,you could hardly move ,for wagons buzzing about wellfield road ,and lodge street area, ,walter edmundson , started out as a timber merchant in the -1920,s and was still going in the -1980,s ,at its base on lodge street , as image -4 shows they used to park their lorries on a spare pad , off marsh lane , and also after the house clearance of the - 1960,s they d take to parking on the land that was left empty ,between lodge street and Atholl street , ,where the ashton labour club was built ,in image -5 , you can see the area ,with croft street mill , behind the lorry , , lodge street was nt without its incidents , with at least two of the lorries ,going into the house fronts on wellfield road , that I can remember ,as one of them was , my mates house , and he was watching the six million dollar man at the time , must have come as quite a shock , but I am reassured they not only could rebuild the house front ,but did at least twice ..... as for steve Austin ... well thats another matter .....Still very much in business today Edmundson Haulage are owned by Manx Independent Carriers of Isle of Man and are now based at 8 Prospect Place, Prescot Road, East Pimbo Estate, Skelmersdale. Operating a large fleet of vehicles more details can be found on the Edmundson Ronagency website , if your a fan of the lorries .... I am a train spotter myself ,so I ll probably pass on that ......
