As a loyal citizen of this country, I’m deeply concerned about the clumsy rate of development in our country even after the new constitution paved way for the formation of the 47 counties meant to bring service delivery closer to the common mwananchi. To my utter surprise, most of the leaders who were duly elected to protect us and promote our livelihood are now embezzling public funds and other resources to benefit themselves and their affiliates. Members of parliament have decided to make CDF Kitty their cash cow. Governors have even made it worse than before. This is vivid especially the way they have given themselves privileges and hefty allowances. They have now become demi-gods overnight at the expense of the ordinary man. Public resources have been mercilessly mutilated and sold to private developers who don’t benefit the locals. Bear in mind that every tenure has expiry dates. Our leaders should not forget that their predecessors were voted out by the same people who had voted them in. Most of the leaders are egocentric and their interests are self-fulfilling. They have forgotten the purpose of the offices they hold of serving the people who gave them jobs. It’s now upon all opinion leaders both in religious and political field as well to join hands and lead this nation and its people to greater heights of prosperity through empowerment of all groups in a community and fighting corruption, illiteracy, poverty and insecurity which downplay all efforts of development. Most Kenyans are optimistic and look for open chances and opportunities to grow; they therefore need to be given chance and better business environment to enhance development in our counties. All attention should be focused on main community development and holistic growth in the recent time, Kenyans are fed up of void promises and delayed projects. It’s upon those in position now to impact the lives of people through transparency and quality delivery of services, improved health facilities, quality education and other matters that directly touch on common people. I believe all Kenyans need to see some development in our country since the last general elections. Leaders should not take Kenyans’ problems for granted. We are watching at a distance and time is coming when all those who will not have performed and delivered their promises will definitely be sent packing if not on a compulsory leave. Children and youth are starving while poor mothers are losing children at delivery in our County hospitals. What kind of leaders! Look at the conditions of our public schools, police stations et al; there is nothing to smile about. I speak for the voiceless but am happy that the good Lord is watching at a distance.
