As a person who has seen ALS up close and has affected my life I think that many people are blindly doing the challenge as a social media fad. This video is a creative and informative take on the movement that has spread through facebook. ALS or Lou Gehrigs disease is a is a rapidly progressive, neuromuscular disease. It attacks the motor neurons that transmit electrical impulses from the brain to the voluntary muscles in the body. When they fail to receive messages, the muscles lose strength, atrophy and die. This disease does not discriminate on age, gender, or nationality and usually does not affect the mind; essentially leaving its victims trapped inside their own bodies. I believe that this challenge is an amazing way to raise money for the ALS foundation but I encourage the doers of the challenge to get informed !
