As a self respecting Latino Immigrant, I could not vote for any candidate who cannot or will not respond to these questions: Here are some questions which are actually relevant for the growing immigrant community in Nassau County, and which the candidates for Nassau County Executive should respond, and I mean respond, not dance around the issues. Forget the snippet soundbites and answer the followings. The way these questions are answered can mean the separation of families, the loss of a breadwinner in a family, removal of a U.S. born child from a family, forcing a U.S. born child to live in another country, or forcing a child back to a country where he has no roots other than having been born there, etc. Please notice that I am not calling any candidate names, or suggesting that one or the other or their followers are not telling the truth. I am simply asking for positions on issues concerning this community so their support and vote may be based on those positions. 1. Does the candidate support comprehensive immigration reform, and support the Dream Act? 2. In what concrete ways has the candidate promoted comprehensive immigration reform, and how does he propose to use his influence to communicate the need for comprehensive immigration reform to other members of his political party? 3. Does the candidate agree with the ideas promoted by the Tea Party, which are very anti-immigrant and anti-poor, ideas which directly affect the way the Immigrant community is perceived? 4. How will the candidate take a stand toward the Tea Party movement and their anti-immigrant rhetoric. 5. Does the candidate support having immigration officers at the Nassau County jail? 6. What is the candidates view on immigration raids in Nassau County, and will the candidate allow the NC police department to assist in these raids? I look forward to the candidates answering these questions and I will be sharing their responses with the immigrant community so they can make up their minds as to who is with them in their struggle, and who is not.
