As a teacher, you will have a kid come along that has a special gift. This student has several, but one of her best is writing. Im also posting this persuasive essay, to hopefully persuade some of you to take her advice. Did you know that over 61% of overweight 5 to 10 year-olds have at least one risk factor of heart disease? That’s a lot of children who could possibly suffer the consequences of over-eating. In some cases it’s not all the child’s fault, the parents should set boundaries for their children. That doesn’t mean let them starve, just don’t over eat. So, let’s take a stand and end childhood obesity. To begin with, obesity can get embarrassing. People will start to laugh at you, and talk behind your back. You also won’t have confidence in yourself to do everyday tasks. So pace yourself, because being obese is a terrible way to live. Another reason is that you can become dependent on others. You won’t cook or clean for yourself, and you expect people to wait on you hand and foot. In addition, you will start to let people down, which is never a good feeling. Most importantly, obesity can lead to heart disease. If you have heart disease there is a good chance you will always have to be on medication. There is also a chance you can get diabetes. My Granny has diabetes and is always having to take medication to feel as close to normal as possible. Being obese sets a big risk of death at an early age. So, ask yourself, are you willing to give up your family for obesity? It doesn’t sound fun does it? Being obese is a terrible way to live. If you are obese I encourage you to do something about it. I know many people that are over-weight, and they sat it is a miserable way to live. So, stop being lazy, stop eating junk food, and turn off the television, because it’s time to live a healthy and refreshed life! -Olivia McGuire (5th Grade)
