As a teenager Paulo Coelho wanted to become a writer. Upon telling his mother, she panicked and responded with: your father is an engineer, you should be like him. Coelho insisted on his opinion, then his parents committed him to a mental institution and he remained there until the age of 20. When he was asked about this experience he said: they didnt do it to destroy me, they did it to save me”. I believe that this wonderful ability that Coelho has of understanding the others’ motives and forgiving, is what made him one of the greatest writers ever known, were he sold over 165 million books and his novels were translated to 80 languages. I believe the ability to forgive is one the most difficult virtues, and to continue doing it over and over again is even harder, however, I understand that those who can forgive will have the world between their hands as Paulo Coelho.
