In the nearly four years shes been on the job, the manager of the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum has not contributed anything to The Jefferson County Historical Quarterly or The Pine Bluff Desktop Museum. I, the creator of the Pine Bluff Desktop Museum, offered many times to loan items to the museum and have never even received a reply. And since she took the job, the local tourist-information center stopped recommending the museum as a place for passers-by to visit, and the museums membership roster has lost most of its members, simply because of the current manager, her odd behavior and rude demeanor. All the old-timers and local historians who used to frequent the museum have stopped going to the museum, mostly because they dont feel welcome anymore. Everyone knows about the theft from my displays there, plus the dismantling of the wildlife and Ben Pearson exhibits and the shuttering of half of the building, just a few of the stupid things that have happened on the current managers watch, and at a time when Interest in Pine Bluff history is very high and the city desperately needs an infusion of tourist dollars, the museum does not have a manager who even cares about local history and has blown off many of the people who helped start it and kept it going for 30 years. I have lobbied all the relevant people in the Courthouse with no results. The museum could be a beehive of activity but it seems that the current manager prefers not to have visitors. Where is the logic in all this? Why cant we have a history museum like other towns? Why is everyone afraid to do anything about this? Have you not heard the story of how the manager fired longtime employee Becca Phillips? She fired her at the end of a working day and told her she had five minutes to pack up and get out. A person like this does not deserve your tax dollars. Please, call Judge Dutch King and demand that this ineffective, waste of your money, be fired immediately.
