As a young girl , about 9 years old ... I would rush from school to my mom who worked at Westridge Library , we lived exactly opposite and it was my favourite thing to do . Reading the fairytales , one by one ... I eventually found myself on the other side of the library asking mom to show me books of cakes .... And it all began right there .... I did not bother looking up from the books , my eyes mesmerized by every picture ... Enchanted to say the least , I dashed home and tried to make meringue and chocolate mousse , the meringue a total flop ... The mousse was delicious and I felt inspired by my valiant attempt . And as they say , the rest is history . I was hooked . As the years passed i kept on learning more about the beautiful art of cooking and baking and working in the field of food... My family would be all about food , and mom at the heart of it all , creating memories that will remain dear .... The year my beloved mom passed ( May the Almighty grant her the highest place in Jannah IA) ..... I found myself getting divorced as well ... A tough year that was ... I suddenly found myself ... Heartbroken and grieving .... Filled with sorrow and slowly slipping down a dark abyss with no hope or reprieve ..... But as we all know ... There is always hope ... I picked myself up , started all over again with not a penny to my name but a memory , a memory so strong of that day ... As a young girl , nose in the cookbooks... Rushing to help mom in the kitchen ... And thats what I did ... I got back into my kitchen ..., and I felt her there with me ... Smiling at me ... Guiding me ... Showing me my purpose , sharing my love for food ... Having the courage to share My secret dream .... Of having my own cookbook .... And one day a young girl would go through the pages of this cookbook , almost spellbound ... And when see looks at the front cover of the book , it would read ... Cape Malay Cooking with Fatima Sydow
