As area temperatures are predicted to drop into the single digits over the next few days, the Tennessee Valley Authority is asking for a voluntary reduction in electricity use until Friday afternoon. This request extends to all electric power consumers - residential, commercial and industrial. Joe Wheeler EMC and other local power companies, along with TVA, have also reduced power usage at their facilities to assist in this effort. This voluntary reduction will help ensure a continued supply of power and help avoid interruptions of service due to high demand. Setting your thermostat 2-3 degrees below your normal setting, postponing use of dishwashers, dryers and cooking equipment, and turning off nonessential lights, appliances, and electronics will help TVA manage the high power demand during this time.
