As its the 100th anniversary of World War One tomorrow, here are two photographs of my grandfather Harold Hancock who fought in the 51st Hampshire Regiment. Born in Northbrook Road, Southampton, he worked for fifty years in the docks and lived for more than sixty years in Porchester Road, Woolston. During World War Two he was an ARP in the docks, and as their house was bombed, the family were evacuated to Fordingbridge in the New Forest living in a converted railway carriage. Unbelievably he cycled from Fordingbridge to Southampton Docks and back everyday. They dont make people like Grandad Harold anymore ......... Thinking of you on this special anniversary.
