As many of you have heard by now Sabine Creek Ranch has offered to open its doors to the immigrant children who have illegally crossed the border in south Texas. While the decision to make the facility available to house these children was made by the Ranch, your elders are supportive of the decision and will lead our church to do whatever we can to care for the children who may be placed here. Regardless of where you may stand on this issue politically, biblically, in both the Old and New Testament it is clear that God calls his people to care for the strangers who sojourn among them and the orphans in their time of need. When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 19:33-34 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. James 1:27 We ask that you join us as we prayerfully consider what part our church might play in meeting the physical and spiritual needs of any children that God might put in our path at the Ranch. As the situation continues to develop we will keep you informed of how we as a church can demonstrate our love for Jesus by serving the least of these. Shannon Collins Pastor, Sabine Creek Fellowship
