As many of you know, I do social media for a national nonprofit - TopicsExpress

As many of you know, I do social media for a national nonprofit organization. For the moment, Im going to pretend Im an expert or someone whose opinion matters on a subject, that subject being the Ice Bucket Challenge. I frequently see people criticizing campaigns like this, with arguments like, A like isnt the same as a donation. But heres the thing: you are never going to make a donation to an organization that you havent heard of. When someone shares a post from a nonprofits Page or posts an Ice Bucket Challenge video, another person (or people!) possibly becomes aware of a nonprofit organization, or puts it on their radar. Even when a person is aware of an organization, if its not one s/he regularly supports, its less likely that person will regularly remember to donate money. Its great that people are either being introduced to The ALS Association or being reminded to donate - and evidently donations are rolling in. Other people say its a gimmick - what isnt a gimmick these days? And one that raises awareness, and possibly funds, for an life-threatening illness? Im all for it.
