As many of you know, the Wellstones are very well known for being active in fighting domestic violence. In 1999, Womens Advocates was honored by Paul and Sheila Wellstone for its leadership role in this movement. Twenty-five years ago, a group of women had the foresight to open the doors to a wood-frame Victorian house on Grand Avenue and begin to welcome women and their children into their new home of comfort and security. Unknowingly perhaps, these women created a movement that has had a profound impact on our nation. This movement, founded on the basic, but urgent need to protect and guard the safety and well-being of battered women and their children, has its roots planted firmly in our own State of Minnesota...it is out great privilege to celebrate and honor the mothers of the battered womens movement, Womens Advocates, Inc. It is a movement that has never stopped, but only gained momentum. Please join us on Thursday to continue the conversation in putting an end to domestic violence.
