As much as I loved the IRL in Houston, I wish we were going to see - TopicsExpress

As much as I loved the IRL in Houston, I wish we were going to see Formula 1 in Austin this month. There is only one engineering series left in racing, the rest are all stock cars. I so miss CART, the last American engineering series. What is the difference? The technology is not limited to stock parts or chassis or modified stock parts. They do not add restrictor plates and they do not change the rules because they do not like which team is winning. The rules are set for size, displacement, weight, tire type, etc. and if somebody figures out a better way within those limits, they can win every damn race until another team figures out how to beat them. I watched NASCAR in Atlanta, from inside the NASCAR command center, contemplate changing the rules so Jeff Gordon had a better chance and they did it right up until half an hour before the race started. They actually brought the restrictor plates out while debating it. That was back in the 90s. I watched them jump for joy, about 2/3 of the staff there, when he won saying it was good for the sport. That is when I gave up on NASCAR once and for all.
