As much as it truly pains us both to do it, allow Graham and I to share with you our views about the insidious plastic coated nature of the Organisation known as Cycle. We now know the Ghost Bike at Annerley was installed by Cycle today, despite knowing that wed been preparing one for two solid days. Both of us are disgusted that the bike has been installed for the wrong reasons. Cycle went as far last night as to emailGraham, begging us not to proceed with the gesture at all without the familys permission! Today, despite their correspondence with us, we have been alerted to the fact that Cycle admins themselves hurriedly rushed together a bike, alerted 7 News to their intentions, and posed for prosperity on site this afternoon. It was well known that we would be placing a bike on site in Rebekkas memory at 2pm tomorrow afternoon. This is a culmination of a long series of events we believe have been for the sole purpose of undermining the good well meaning work that we do for the sole benefit of cyclists in Australia. Sorry Brisbane, sorry Australia, but Ghost Bikes are installed by those who are mourning the loss of yet another treasured life, not by those who seek cheap press and pats on backs. I you want to know what this means to us, listen to 4BCs Drive Show podcast from yesterday. I am still utterly devistated by yesterdays tragedy. Cycle, you are nothing to SCA tonight, but more importantly, you bring the image of cycling organisations into disrepute with your despicable unconscionable conduct. Why do Australias advocacy groups not work together? Because that mistrust is well deserved. The admins of the former Drivers For Registration Of Bicycles are held in higher regard by Cycle than us, to the point where the late DFROB group are being expected to consult with and plan for the future of cyclists in this country. I know some of you will object to our viewpoint on this, but I can assure you, both Graham and myself are reasonable and passionate people who truly care about and love what we do. The timing of this really sucks, but weve both quite simply had enough of this kind of childish behaviour. Shame on you Cycle, a cyclists death is not a fight for the carcass and we do not play games. A truly low and despicable act. The time has come for Cycle to stand on their own two feet and not just capitalise on the work of everyone else in this country. If they wish to hold the Sydney and Brisbane Die Ins that were currently planning as well, then lets see what theyve got. Dave and Graham.
