As of 1 November 2013, the 2014-2015 General Arnold Education - TopicsExpress

As of 1 November 2013, the 2014-2015 General Arnold Education Grant Program application is available from our website at afas.org/education-grants through the 7 March 2014 deadline. The Society continues to offers these need-based grants in the amount to $2,000 each to dependent children of active duty, Title 10 Reservists on extended active duty, Title 32 AGR performing full-time active duty, retired Air Force members, retired Reservists with 20+ years of qualifying service, and deceased Air Force members. Spouses of active duty members and Title 10 Reservists, and surviving spouses of Air Force members who died while on active duty or in retired status are also eligible candidates. All eligible students must enroll as full-time undergraduates in colleges, universities or vocational/trade schools whose accreditation is approved by the US Department of Education for participation in federal aid programs, and must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale. Required supporting documentation includes copies of the students military ID and sponsoring members military orders. AFAS has verified with AF JA, that under AFI 36-3026 (I) Chapter 1, Table 1.8.1.1 military IDs may be photocopied to administer military-related benefits to eligible beneficiaries. AF members who have questions should be referred to the AFI and their servicing legal office. As always, it is very important to emphasize to senior NCOs and officers in your community that they should not opt out of the competition just because they believe their rank or income disqualifies them. This program is tailored for Air Force families with college students, and all of them need to be reminded of this opportunity and encouraged to compete. The 2,648 award recipients from 2013-2014 can attest to the value of completing the application process. Please note that out of the 3,839 preliminary applications accepted by AFAS and advanced on to our grant administrator, 638 were denied due to incorrect/incomplete financial and/or GPA information. This immediately increased the overall selection rate from 69% (2,648 awards out of 3,839 applications) to 83% (2,648 awards out of 3,201 complete applications) based on the number of applicants who correctly completed both phases of the application process! Attached are materials to help you publicize the grant program throughout your community, including 2013-2014 statistics if applications were received from eligible applicants at your base. Thanks in advance for helping us reach eligible Air Force families. If you have any questions regarding the General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program or AFAS Education Programs in general, please feel free to contact this office. Education Assistance Department (703) 972-2647
