As promised, a short update on how the Scarpa Rebel Ultra fared - TopicsExpress

As promised, a short update on how the Scarpa Rebel Ultra fared drytooling... well, they are the closest thing to fruit boots I have ever climbed in (other than fruit boots, obviously!). They are very precise and flexible, allowing moves that most mountaineering boots are too stiff for. There is some forefoot flex, but it didn’t give me any issues, the sole transferring power straight to the crampon, as far as I could tell anyway. I used a super-light crampon combo of Petzl Dart front and Esperon rear, and they felt almost like fruit-boots: very close to the sole and exceedingly accurate in placement. There is some flex but not enough to detract from committing to a move, yet it feels like just enough to comfortably walk in. Very much looking forward to extended testing/training sessions! (FWIW, we didn’t get beyond D/M8.)
