As the article says it will be the hardest thing the Nats will - TopicsExpress

As the article says it will be the hardest thing the Nats will need to sell before the next election. If there is an alternative candidate for the people of NSW to vote for then they will vote for that candidate and it will be against CSG. Not at anytime before has there been a better chance to tell the National Party that they need to start representing the people they were put in to parliament to represent. The mistrust from both sides of government, labour and liberal gives no one in rural NSW any hope of representing them in the way that they should be. The smug Nats and the sheer arrogance displayed by a number of them will be their downfall. The sooner the country seats become swinging seats the government will need to start listening. We can no longer stand back and let the Nats walk all over us and think that we will vote for them day in and day out no matter what comes out of their mouths. CSG will be their downfall. It does not mean jobs for locals. Not in any way the amount the locals are talking about. Not long term as with agriculture. CSG is not sustainable. Like any fossil fuel industry it comes to an end when there is nothing left. Yes it is dry, at the moment, but we have got through the dry before and unless they stop digging the fossil fuels out of the ground it will get dryer. We have to feed people, yes and we need energy yes. The renewable energy can be and will be just as efficient and will not bring this country down to its knees. What it will do is make it more efficient. Moree is a prime example of what can happen when it comes to solar power with a huge plant going in over the next few years. It looks to be going ahead. Narrabri on the other hand is relying on an industry that will only lead to water contamination and depressurization of our aquifers. No one can trust a company who has contaminated aquifers already and it took them over 12 months to report it. Santos in their own submission to the government states the following. Compared with the assessment conducted in accordance with the Significant Impact Guidelines for the Exploration and Appraisal Program, an assessment for the Project indicates that the duration and wider geographic extent of depressurisation of groundwater head within the coal seams and adjacent strata will cause a significant impact to the groundwater resources of the Gunnedah-Oxley Basin. However, due to the depth of the target coal seams, low hydraulic conductivity of the target strata and poor hydraulic continuity with overlying stata, the overlying groundwater features of greater sensitivity (Pillliga Sandstone, alluvium) are highly unlikely to experience significant impact. How can a company who has been misleading their community expect people to now to believe CSG will not affect their water. Yes it will be a hard sell because everyone who uses artesian Water will be affected by Santos and their CSG. Everyone from Broken Hill to Moree. It might not be showing yet, as some local farmers think. Once those wells start going in and they are all connected. You will see the water level go down. This admission is a guarantee that it will affect the pressure at some point in the future. Did they think we would not find this in their submission or do they just think the people are so stupid they would not worry about it. Look out Nats your time is coming to a swift end come March, people do not liked to be lied to and this so called plan does nothing for the licenses that are already out there in Narrabri and Gloucester. You and your government cannot be trusted. As this article says It promises tougher regulation, better science and data collection, and a more strategic, transparent approach to deciding where gas exploration can take place. But much of the detail – including what parts of the state will be open for drilling and the exact conditions to be imposed on the industry – will not be revealed until after the election, deferring voter backlash. Can they be trusted when so many of the politicians at the moment change their story once they get in.
