As the branches of the tree return their sap to the root from - TopicsExpress

As the branches of the tree return their sap to the root from whence it arose; as a river pours its streams to the sea whence its spring was supplied; so the hearts of grateful people are eager to return the benefits they have received. They acknowledge their obligations with cheerfulness and look on their benefactor with love and esteem. And if returning those benefits is not in their power, they nourish the memory of it in their hearts with kindness and do not forget it for the rest of their lives. The hand of the generous is like the clouds of heaven, which drop upon earth fruits, plants and flowers. But the heart of the ungrateful is like a desert of sand that greedily swallows the flowers that fall, buries them and produces nothing. Do not envy the benefactor, nor strive to conceal the benefit received; for although obligating others is better than being obligated oneself, and although the act of generosity commands admiration, yet the humility of gratitude touches the heart, and is amiable in the sight of both God and all people. But receive no favor from the hand of the proud, nor bear an obligation to the selfish and avaricious; for the vanity of pride will expose you to shame, and the greediness of avarice will never be satisfied. -Unto Thee I Grant.
