As the recent Dec 2014 RAFARS / No 1 Radio School Force - TopicsExpress

As the recent Dec 2014 RAFARS / No 1 Radio School Force Development exercise went extremely well, there has been very early indications that this type of event may well be looked at again for either late 15 or early 16. Just to clarify a few things. This recent event took over 8 months to plan and execute from both a military and civilian perspective. The military party was solely organised by 1RS and the civilian contingent was largely organised by themselves. Civilian participants were retired military but they still required special clearance from PJHQ to attend. This clearance was provided by the in theatre sponsor which fell under the 1RS banner. Accommodation was provided for all members of the event as they were all retired military. 1RS were classed as duty therefore this was automatic. This again was authorised via the 1RS team and in theatre sponsor. All transport arrangements had to utilise on island hire vehicles from Stanley. Both parties had to organise their own transport and fuel as required. Everybody who intended to operate the radio kit on island had to have a VP8 license, available from Stanley. These have to be collected in person and a payment of £20 is required. Any special event callsigns will be allocated and authorised as required. Radio facilities are located at MPA but those operating it require permission and authorisation to draw the key. The event required a 2* sign off to even happen and without a military lead would have proven extremely difficult for non military participation. If this type of event is to happen again then it will require a military lead to obtain clearances should accomodation, food and the ability to use the radio equipment at Mount Pleasant be required. Should this not be the case then alternative hotel accommodation is available in Stanley. 1RS again will lead any exped enquiries and any requests to form part of the event especially where military facilities are required are to be directed through them. Of course those not requiring any military assistance (apart from the South Atlantic Air Bridge) are more than welcome to arrange their own event. All the best for the New Year. Regards, Martin (G7FTN / VP8DNU) (No1RS Lead)
