As usual, on this seemingly ordinary day, my mind has been on a continuous loop replaying the events of 9/11/01. Some of you know that I worked in North Olmsted on Lorain Road very close to the airport in 2001 and that I witnessed what I truly believe was the initial take over of Flight 93. We stood outside the office that day staring into the sky as we heard the horrific sound of a jet rushing toward the ground and us. We could literally see the passengers in the windows as the plane suddenly turned and headed back up into the sky. Then silence. We went back into the office and stared numbly at the news coverage for a while. Watched the towers collapse in utter disbelief. Saw that a plane crashed in Shankstown, PA, clueless at the time. Another, so they say, into the Pentagon. Finally, a short time later headed for home. There was no work that would be accomplished that day. That seemingly ordinary day that proved to be anything but ordinary. I read Lets Roll by Lisa Beamer, Todd Beamers widow, a few years later. Her account, via Todds final phone call, is what leads me to believe that was indeed Flight 93 I saw that ordinary September day. To say that I will never forget is an understatement. Prayers for a mournful nation today.
