As usual the NYTimes is reporting on the selfie stick way late, - TopicsExpress

As usual the NYTimes is reporting on the selfie stick way late, but thats pretty normal for this publication. I take issue with this line: In a culture where technological advances are often used to help humans connect more deeply to their own narcissism, this is an important innovation. I do not get why the conversation about technology advancements is always framed in terms of narcissism. When used consciously and considerately, technology is about new ways to connect with others, reflect the self, and passively connect with a broader public. When used in the self-obsessed way that the NYTimes discusses, however, the selfie does become a way that we are both our own biggest fans and private paparazzi, as I say in Jerry Saltzs New York Magazine article on Selfie. But, the selfie stick as its used in Times Square is used to document a togetherness moment in New York City, not one of narcissism. I take issue with writer Katherine Rosmans read on the group selfie via the selfie stick. I want to write a more considered, thoughtful and honest approach to the selfie for the The New York Times.
