As we are about to hear the Cardinal finish his testimony before - TopicsExpress

As we are about to hear the Cardinal finish his testimony before the Royal Commission I reflect back on the words of wisdom from a former Chief Justice of our High Court: “The Australian church is our church, our responsibility, our beloved home. In that context, egalitarianism means that, while bishops, priests and people have different functions to perform, each has an equal responsibility for, and an equal right to, performance of those functions. Tolerance requires that we understand that the church, Divine in origin, depends on humans to perform their several functions and we must accept the failures and the shortcomings of ourselves and others, keeping our minds and hearts on Him who is our end and purpose. And freedom empowers us to follow our conscience and, hopefully, to choose to bear the burdens of the Christian life and rejoice in the love, Divine and human which they bring.” Sir Gerard Brennan 1999 Discerning the Australian Social Conscience
