The announcement from Kevin Law, chairman of the gaming siting board, came at the end of two days of presentations from casino developers in Albany. Its not going to be early October but mid- to late October is within the realm of possibility, Law said. We should allow for that because it shouldnt have a self-imposed or artificial deadline that would rush us into a decision, Law said. The board will evaluate casino applications and select who can apply for a commercial gaming license in New York. The commission heard from the applicants for all nine casino proposals lined up in the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Six of the proposals are in Orange County, two in Sullivan County and one in Ulster County. One of the applicants has two proposals. The daylong presentations added few new twists to the applications already on file with the commission. Those applications run to 15,000 pages in some cases. The commission could approve two casino licenses in this region. Millions of dollars in revenue, both for the state and local economies, are at stake.
