As we left Telegraph Cove we had many reports of killer whales in the area. We headed towards the closest last known location and were surprised to come across many of these amazing creatures. There were possibly 30+ orcas that swam past us, many of these whales were members of matrilines that we hadn’t seen yet this season on our tours. Of these whales we were able to identify members of the A30 matriline. As we were viewing these whales, there were also many humpback whales in the area as well. We were extremely fortunate to be in the right place at the right time in order to view two different and incredible cetacean species at the same time. In the afternoon the Kuluta joined forces with the Lukwa as our guest and crew set out for some more adventure. We were lucky enough to come across the same large group of orcas before they traveled out of our range. Our onboard hydrophone was able to pick up some of the whale’s vocals. The animals were mainly travelling, but there was some foraging seen as well. As we returned to Telegraph Cove everyone spotted a black bear at the mouth of the Cove!
