As we prepared for the start of Advent, we had several special services in school. The boarders, with the help of Mr Gregory, made the Christingles in the morning before joining the villagers and local residents at the Brandeston Parish church for the Christingle service. During the service the boarders joined in with the sermon to help us learn about Christingle and the relevance of the orange and what the sweets and candles represent. We sang hymns with a Christingle theme and Robert Monaghan lit the first candle on the Advent wreath. When all of the Christingles were lit, the church was lit up beautifully. All of the congregation had joined in a most wonderful service led by Reverend Vellacott and made us all start to feel very festive. On Monday we celebrated the start of Advent with a special service in our parish church. The first candle on our advent wreath was lit and Reverend Vellacott spoke of meaning of the first candle. Mr Reynell and a number of Year 8 hen took part in a dramatic assembly that helped to explain the meaning of advent and wonder of waiting for the birth of baby Jesus. The pupils sung O little town of Bethlehem beautifully on what was a perfect start to Christmas at Brandeston Hall. The Pre-Prep children had also had special assemblies to talk about the meaning of advent and how we prepare for the coming of Jesus by lighting the candles on an Advent ring. The children explored an Advent calendar and talked about how the pictures behind the doors depicted different elements in the Nativity story.
