As with any project the size and scope of the one the District is - TopicsExpress

As with any project the size and scope of the one the District is approaching, there are unforeseen circumstances. We have just experienced one this past week. We had an asbestos firm sample and check material in our current buildings especially where new construction and renovations will occur. We were expecting some asbestos material that would need to be removed but were surprised with some materials that were found to contain asbestos. Some of the surprises were the drop in ceiling tile at the Middle School, floor tile in the Middle School, mud compound used in drywall joints at the Middle School, panels above and below the windows at the Middle School, caulking around the windows at the Middle School, drywall mud at Jonesburg, glazing compound on the gym windows at Montgomery City Elementary and caulking on those same windows. Other areas where asbestos was found and we expected it was floor tile at the High School, floor tile at Jonesburg Elementary, ceiling material at Jonesburg Elementary, floor tile at Montgomery City Elementary and ceiling material at Montgomery City Elementary. The cost of dealing with this amount of asbestos will likely be significant and may have an impact on what is constructed and the type of construction chosen. We will work hard to minimize the impact on our bond construction. The asbestos firm is preparing impact report and estimated costs for the Board which we hope to have this coming week. Mr. Kidwell has already contacted people and firms who work with asbestos to start determining some options. We will keep you informed of the outcome and progress as information becomes known.
