As you know, Election Day is April 1. There needs to be a big push on the Milwaukee County referendum and try to stop the hostile takeover of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County by the state. That means vote NO! There needs to be many feet on the street the weekend before Election Day to educate people about this important issue (see below) Please join come by Coffee Makes You Black (Center and Teutonia) at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, March 29. You can fuel up, pick up materials, choose a location, and hit the streets. Any time Saturday, Sunday, or Monday would be a good time to talk to voters. Please bring a buddy, so that you can be assigned in pairs. That will let you talk to more voters. Please RSVP by this Friday, March 21, so Linea (linea.sundstrom@gmail) can give CMYB a heads-up on how many coffee drinkers and breakfast eaters to expect. You can see their menu here. Cant march on an empty stomach. *What the referendum asks is whether Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors members should be paid no more than the median income (not median salary) of the county. That amounts to around $24,000. This is part of a larger effort to undermine the authority of the County Board of Supervisors, to limit their ability to provide voter services, and to discourage people from running for local office. Of course, no one is proposing that the state legislators and governor receive only the average income of Wisconsin residents and lose their health and retirement benefits. We need to call our legislature and governor out on this kind of hypocrisy. The GOP and County Exec Chris Abele are expecting an easy win on this. Lets show them the power of the ballot box.
