As you will have heard by now, Relay For Life in Halifax was cancelled on Friday night due to a bomb threat received by police. When presented with this information we made the prudent decision to cancel Relay and ensure the safety of all participants and volunteers. We want you to know that this bomb threat was not specifically leveled at the Canadian Cancer Society or Relay For Life. The threat alluded to a Boston Marathon type bombing, and because Relay For Life was the only large scale event happening in the city at the time we took precautionary measures. There is no reason to believe that other Relays will be targeted throughout the province. We encourage communities to move forward with their plans in honour of the survivors and participants who were unable to Relay in Halifax. The Canadian Cancer Society thanks its volunteers, donors, participants and the general public for their support and understanding.
