“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” -Matthew 7:7 Life is too short to be wasted on things that just don’t matter. Life is too short to not appreciate the little things. Today seemed like a mundane day. I’ve been cleaning the house and taking care of Damon. I do a lot of thinking when I feed him… I thought to myself, today, Damon will never be the same age is he right now. I thought about my future and all of the possibilities of what could be. I could choose to be sad and angry with a hole in my heart the rest of my life. Or I could fill that hole with the right things—my son, the people I love, my job that I love, the dreams I have always had for the future but always set aside. Why do people choose to become defeated? We could choose to let this unfair life defeat us or realize that’s just what it is—an unfair life… and dust yourself off and make a conscious choice to be happy. Because that is what life is--a constant string of choices. You make good choices and you make bad choices. Your choices lead you and have led you to where you are now. Today, I could choose to be unhappy and continue to only dream about what could have been but will never be. Instead, today, I will make a conscious decision to be happy. Today, I will choose to appreciate all of the little moments with my son instead of wasting them while focusing on feelings that won’t even matter in a year from now. Today, I will move into action to accomplish my new dreams. Today, I could be bored that it is mundane… or sad about the events that took place in my life. But today, I will appreciate that it’s a mundane day! I will choose to embrace it! I will make a pot of coffee, turn on some Netflix, and snuggle with my son. And appreciate every moment of it. Life is just too short. So I ask all of you to think to truly think about this. Do we want to meander through life and one day it is over? Or do we want to make the decision to live it with a sense of purpose? Today you can make the choice. To surround yourself with the people who care about you, hug those who are hurting, forgive those who have wronged you, turn those dreams into reality, take up on those experiences that are offered to you, practice patience, appreciate every single second you and the ones you love are alive, and SHOW your love like there is no tomorrow. Because someday, there will be no tomorrow.
