Ask yourself: Does every child born deserve an equal chance to succeed in life? Or, on the other hand, should a childs prospects be expanded/curtailed depending upon cultural assumptions about his/her parents? Last weeks This American Life looks at how black and latino kids in *pre-school* get suspended (*SUSPENDED*.... from PRE-school!) for things like disrespect, while a white kid, in the same class, is merely made to apologize for hitting another kid so hard that they were taken to the hospital. They speak to a grown-up product of this environment. She reports: [after being suspended numerous times in pre-school] by the time I entered kindergarten, the teacher was the enemy. This kind of start is so good at setting kids on a course for a life of incarceration that theyve developed a term for it: The School-to-Prison Pipeline. If you really want to keep believing that blank and latino kids are just inherently less respectful and more inclined toward crime, then dont listen to stuff like last weeks episode: thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/538/is-this-working
